POSITION: English as a Second Language / Multilingual Teacher
REPORTS TO: Director of Multilingual Service

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
● Bachelor’s degree or higher in content area
● Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL)
● English as a Second Language Endorsement (ESL) 9-12

OVERALL JOB DUTIES:
General:
● Demonstrate a commitment to social justice, equity, excellence and high expectations for all students and
commitment to each student’s academic and personal well-being.
● Establish and manage student learning in a safe, positive, and respectful learning community in the
classroom.
● Know the content and current thinking specific to the discipline and engage students in using the skills, habits, and
tools essential to the discipline/content.
● Plan and implement instruction that draws upon a large repertoire of strategies in order to address the range of
student needs and learning styles.
● Assess student progress, analyze results, and adapt instruction to improve student achievement.
●Demonstrate a commitment to professional growth by reflecting on practice, collaborating with colleagues, and
monitoring your own learning.
● Exhibit a high degree of professionalism.

Specific to Department:
● Provide English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction to Multilingual Learners identified as ELs in a co taught
humanities (English/History) setting.
● Collaborate and plan with content teacher(s) to align instruction and support students’ English language
development across all four domains and their classroom instructional needs (instructions, vocabulary, reading and
writing support, and modification of assignments).
● Collaboratively plan and deliver lessons with language objectives; aligned to WIDA Instructional Standards and
differentiate instruction for varying levels of English proficiency.
● Develop and progress monitor language goals for individual EL students on your caseload.
● Collaborate and communicate with the school’s instructional leadership teams and departments to ensure EL
students receive language support and other forms of academic assistance.
● Assist with the oversight and delivery of ACCESS administration.
● Demonstrate cultural proficiency and use effective and culturally relevant instructional practices, including
translinguistic practices which engage the complete linguistic repertoire of EL students across their multiple
languages.
● Demonstrate an understanding of and fluency using WIDA’s ELD Standards Framework and Can Do
Descriptors.
● Attend and participate in district and other professional learning opportunities to strengthen and deepen
instructional practices to support linguistically minoritized students and families.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
● The usual and customary methods of performing the job\'s functions require the following physical demands:
occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; some stooping, kneeling, crouching
and/or crawling and significant finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 20% sitting, 40% walking and 40%
standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and in a generally hazard free environment.

Term of Employment: 10 Months
