ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:
1. Learns to operate Wastewater Treatment Plant by performing job duties under direction of licensed operator; tours plant and ensures plant operates within regulatory guidelines; confers with licensed operators as necessary when collecting samples, observing meters, making adjustments, etc.; performs routine maintenance tasks.
2. Assists in performing laboratory analysis by running various tests to analyze wastewater content; confers with licensed operators as necessary to make appropriate judgements.
3. Records data reflecting tests performed, adjustments made, readings, problems encountered, and other related data; assists in preparation of reports as required.
4. Operates front-end loader and tanker truck to move, load, transport, and dispose of sludge; operates other vehicles to transport personnel, materials, and equipment.
5. Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
6. Meets all applicable job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: necessary to perform duties (* indicates developed after employment).
Knowledge of: wastewater treatment plant operating procedures; equipment utilized in treatment process; regulatory standards*; safety practices and procedures; operation of heavy equipment and vehicles; public relations.
Skill in: motor vehicle operation.

Ability to: recognize unusual conditions and take appropriate action; deal with problems involving several variables in a familiar context; add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers; maintain accurate records; gather, collate and/or classify information about data, people and/or things; operate equipment and vehicles in a safe manner; maintain a valid State of Ohio Commercial Driver's license; work independently; gain access to the worksite; develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, supervisors, and general public.

PHYSICALLY DEMANDING AND HAZARDOUS WORKING CONDITIONS INHERENT IN THIS JOB DESCRIPTION:
The employee is exposed to, must negotiate, use, or work with or in the vicinity of:
1. Floor opening, wall openings and halls, open sided floors, platforms and runways; stairs.
2. Fixed industrial stairs; portable wood and metal ladders; fixed ladders; scaffolding; manlifts.
3. Ventilation equipment.
4. Noisy operations or activities.
5. Chemicals (e.g., chlorine).
6. Chemicals used or stored in excess of 100 pounds of 16.6 gallons (e.g., sodium thiosulfate, ferrous chloride, sodium hydroxide, polymers).
7. Personal protective equipment such as eye or face, head or foot protection; respiratory protection.
8. Permit required confined spaces.
9. The employee provides servicing and maintenance of machines and equipment which could accidentally become energized (lockout/tagout).
10. The employee works at handling materials and supplies.
11. The employee is exposed to, must negotiate, use, or work with or in the vicinity of a powered industrial truck; overhead crane or hoist or sling.
12. The employee is exposed to, must negotiate, use, or work with or in the vicinity of woodworking tools, abrasive wheels, hand and power tools, welding and cutting equipment.
13. The employee works around chemicals in containers or in the form of dust, mist, fumes, or vapors.
14. The employee is required to work with human blood or any body fluids; may be exposed to blood borne pathogens.
15. Occupational exposure to hazardous chemicals in laboratories.

GENERAL DUTY- SAFE AND HEALTHFUL WORKPLACE:
The employee:
1. Has contact with potentially violent or emotionally distraught persons.
2. Has exposure to potentially life threatening situations.
3. Has exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy weather conditions.
4. Occasionally lifts objects 20 pounds or less; carries up to ten (10) to 25 pounds frequently. In cases of emergency, unpredictable situations, and/or department needs may be required to lift, push, pull, and/or carry objects heavier than D.O.L. strength ratings recommend.
Note: In accordance with U.S. Department of Labor physical demands strength ratings, this is
considered light work.

Qualifications:
LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum Class 1 O.I.T wastewater operator Hired employee must be willing to train for an acquire an Ohio EPA Class I Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator's License. Commercial Driver's License with appropriate endorsements wanted.
