The Assistant Controller is primarily responsible for managing the financial statement reporting process as well as overseeing and managing the activity of the accounting department. This position contributes to the success of the accounting department through reviewing financial statements and account reconciliations. Additionally, this position provides guidance and managerial support to A/P, A/R, Payroll, and Treasury.  The Assistant Controller reports to the Controller and works closely with the CFO.



Manage team of accountants and provide direction for accounting projects, including overseeing and upholding accounting goals and deadlines. 
Manage month end and quarter end closing process.
Review monthly financial statements and supporting schedules.
Review the reconciliation of general ledger accounts.
Review monthly bank and investment account reconciliations.
Prepare and/or review monthly journal entries.
Prepare and/or review the reconciliation of inter-company accounts.
Prepare consolidated financial statements and related consolidating journal entries, consolidated equity rollforward schedules and cashflow statements.
Prepare quarterly and annual footnoted financial statements, including supporting documentation for note disclosures and drafting the footnotes to the financial statements.
Manage year-end independent financial statement audits and review.
Research and conclude on technical accounting issues, including interfacing with external audit firms to ensure that accounting issues are identified and resolved in a timely manner.
Continually evaluates internal controls to ensure that adequate internal controls are in place and operating effectively.
Collaborate with Property Managers in preparation of annual budgets and annual tenant reconciliations.
Ensures all critical policies and procedures are documented and current.
Promotes continual focus on innovation, process improvement and enhanced efficiency based upon Accounting Best Practices.
Maximizes utilization of the Yardi ERP system to consistently meet the varying needs of the organization.

Great interpersonal skills

Critical thinking and the capacity to consistently exercise sound judgement and reasoning 
Time management and project management skills – must be able to efficiently manage deadlines for projects and oversee progress for accounting projects  
Proficient with technology  


6+ years of experience in accounting, including experience in managing a team  
3+ years of experience in real estate/property management accounting   
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a directly related field    
CPA required   



Strong communication skills – must be able to demonstrate effective communication skills, both written and verbally   
Strong mathematical reasoning abilities – must be able to make sense of complex accounting systems and processes  
Strong technical capabilities and a thorough understanding of GAAP   
Advanced understanding of Yardi accounting system  
Advanced knowledge of the English language – ability to demonstrate strong written and verbal comprehension and expression
