Details:
The City of Mt. Pleasant Water Department treats and pumps water to the water distribution system serving the City of Mt. Pleasant. The Water Department staff are responsible for the operation and repair of the equipment, as well as the installation, operation, and maintenance of the water mains, valves, service leads, meters, and hydrants of the system.

This position is a Monday through Friday shift working 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The selected candidate must also be available for occasional emergency call-ins.

Employees in this position receive both on the job training and industry specific learning opportunities for continuing education to maintain licensure. Tuition reimbursement is available for job-related college coursework.

The 2022 starting base wage is $19.78/hr. (start step) to $20.35/hr. (one-year step), depending on qualifications. Top base pay for 2022 is $21.85/hr. (two-year step). Top step pay is received after one or two years of employment, depending on the rate of pay received upon hire. The hourly rate of pay is increased by procurement of EGLE state licenses (2022 rates): S-4-$.51/hr.; S-3-$1.03/hr.; S-2-$1.54/hr.; S-1-$2.31/hr. Licenses are not cumulative.

Qualifications:
Minimum qualifications for this position include a high school diploma or equivalent with demonstrated mechanical skills, not limited to automotive, electrical, or machinery such as pumps, hydraulics, or shaft-driven equipment. Formal training in water treatment and experience in the operation and maintenance of a similar water treatment system is preferred. Computer usage with an aptitude for math, science, construction, and chemistry are also desirable skills.

A valid driving license and a safe driving record required. Following hire, the successful candidate must possess or obtain a valid Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes & Energy (EGLE) S-4 Waterworks System Operator Certification within two EGLE testing cycles from the date of hire to remain employed.
