This employee performs basic electrical maintenance duties in which he/she installs, modifies, and maintains in efficient operating condition electrical lines, circuits, systems, fixtures, controls, equipment and motors so that all City departments (with the exception of Traffic Engineering) can provide such services as water, sewage disposal, lighting of public buildings and recreational facilities, and to provide emergency alarm systems to the community. Employee troubleshoots, repairs, and/or modifies, and replaces damaged, malfunctioning, and worn electrical lines, circuits, systems, fixtures, controls and equipment; works on equipment that operates voltages less than 600 volts (low voltage); may direct, orient, and demonstrate work to new workers who are assigned to assist on a given project in order to familiarize them with equipment, tools, work procedures, etc., and to assure safety. Performs related duties as required.

FILLING AT LEAST 2 POSITIONS.

An Electrical Maintenance Worker 1 employee with the Department of Sewers' Wastewater Treatment Division performs duties associated with an industrial electrician. The successful candidate will have a background in three phase AC motors, motor controls, and variable frequency drives. Duties include troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining fractional to large size commercial, industrial type, low voltage electric motors safely by using hand tools and electrical test equipment such as voltmeters, ammeters, and meggars; maintaining electrical control systems such as low voltage power transformers, switchgear, and controllers by determining circuit functions and electro-mechanical operation by inspecting, adjusting, cleaning, testing, and repairing; inspecting and testing circuit breakers; troubleshooting, testing, and/or repairing electrically operated equipment including controllers, valves, and alarms.


Qualifications:
Each applicant must have two years of full-time, paid experience in basic electrical repair or maintenance work OR successfully completed at least two years of a four year electrical apprenticeship program. In addition, each applicant must have completed a full trade school program (high school level) in electrical or electronic repair or maintenance OR have 12 credit hours of electrical maintenance and repair courses through an accredited college level program.
