On a day-to-day basis, the incumbent in this position independently plans, coordinates and conducts fiscal reviews of the more comprehensive fiscal or manual accounting systems in accordance with GAAP, statutes or regulations.
Here are some of the things you'll enjoy doing as General Accounting Lead:
Review work performed by other fiscal staff for accountability and ensure required transactions are accurate in accordance with GAAP.
Provide recommendations on process improvements and internal controls.
Responsible for accuracy of data, monthly reconciliations and managing the workload and resources to meet critical monthly, annual and biennial deadlines.
Assist in managing and monitoring all capital accounting activity, including: following capital projects from funding through completion, capitalizing to an asset if necessary; monitoring and tracking Construction Work in Progress; reconciling all asset general ledgers to the Capital Asset Management System (CAMS); problem solving any issues as they arise.
Train, plan, organize, and perform work related to general ledger accountability.
Monitor and reconcile financial systems and AFRS activity.
Involved in special accounting projects and audit issues that are outside the day to day functions of the accounting staff.
Assist in the oversight of the Certificate of Participation program for the agency. Monitor fiscal and accounting activities, analyze and evaluate potential problems.
In conjunction with other financial, budget and program personnel: reviews, revises and implements changes to agency financial data that ensures accurate and reliable information.
Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s Degree or above in accounting, business, finance, public administration, or closely allied field, which includes 18 quarter or 12 semester hours of accounting, auditing or budgeting.
Three years of professional, progressively responsible experience in applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and handling general ledger accounting.
OR
Any combination of education and relevant professional experience totaling seven years. Education must include the required credit hours in accounting, auditing or budgeting.
