We seek an experienced, analytical, and collaborative person to work as part of our Internal Service Team. The position reports to the firm’s three principals in managing the firm’s business and accounting operations, and is a key player working with and supporting the firm’s consulting project teams in the delivery of exceptional service to our clients.

Typical Functions
Finance and Accounting
 Responsible for all accounting operational functions for a $4.6M firm, including accounts payable/receivable, general ledger, bank account reconciliations, tracking business results and cash flow, and monthly/quarterly taxes
 Management reporting including preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements as well as project reports, work-in-progress reporting, and billing rate calculations
 Financial planning and strategy, facilitate year-end tax compilation including preparation of vendor 1099s and working with external accountant on tax planning
 Ongoing assessment of accounting operations and internal controls, offering recommendations for improvement and implementing new processes for efficiency, streamlining, and maximum use of technology
 Analysis and interpretation of accounting information, providing principals with information vital to the decision-making process to appraise operating results in terms of profitability, performance against budget, and other matters related to the company’s financial performance
 Manage relationships with external vendors and suppliers, seeking cost effective and efficient solutions to support the firm’s growth.

Project-based Planning and Invoicing
 Prepare monthly invoices on 85+ projects including project budget and billing terms management
 Project management support and reporting for consulting delivery teams, providing meaningful reporting tools including close to real-time tracking of project status, performance, and workload planning in Deltek Vision
 Management and review of project contracts, amendments, and consultant subagreements

HR and Payroll
 HR and benefits program administration, including staff support and liaison with benefits consultant
 Review and process weekly timesheets in compliance with auditing standards. Issue monthly reports, including billability tracking
 Administer bi-monthly payroll through Zenefits, along with subsequent journal entries and reporting
 Pension payment administration including staff support and liaison with 401(k) pension consultants
Special Projects
 Work with the firm’s principals to identify and implement new initiatives to advance the firm’s Mission, growth, culture, and financial performance
 Lead and collaborate with the firm’s Internal Service Team to implement ongoing system improvements


Qualifications:
Required Skills and Knowledge: At least five years of experience in an accounting manager, controller, or business manager position. The successful candidate must be comfortable and skilled as a hands-on contributor in a teams-based environment. Excellent communication, technology and analytical abilities are required, as well as expertise with the Microsoft Office Suite including Excel. Candidate must be process- and detail-oriented, able to juggle multiple priorities, and problem-solve to meet day-to-day challenges. Previous success working in a team-based environment is key.

Desirable attributes: Deltek Vision and Zenefits knowledge a plus. Experience with a comparably sized consulting/professional services firm and management of staff.

To compensate our staff for their exceptional work, we offer a competitive salary, excellent benefits, professional development, and a rewarding and fun work environment. Depending on experience, base salary for this position is $85,000 to $100,000, plus benefits, profit sharing, and merit-based bonuses.
Our 27-person team includes urban planners, strategic planners, policy and financial analysts, and facilitators. We work on a collaborative basis in a team environment. During COVID-19 all staff have been working from home, however this position will be Washington-based in the future.
