ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The following list of essential job functions is not exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
An Operator must possess knowledge of treatment plant and pump station processes involved in the operations of the Wastewater Treatment Facilities. They will be responsible for carrying out all duties assigned to them from a higher licensed operator or supervisor.
An Operator shall be responsible for the correct operation of the treatment processes at the Plant and the Pump Stations, regulating flows, wasting, dosing and any other necessary procedure to maintain an acceptable effluent. The Operator will perform these functions through the combination of system control and data acquisition monitoring and control, as well as by personal inspection.
An Operator must have the knowledge to determine when a process is operating correctly, and, in the event that a process is changing or not functioning correctly, must have the skills and ability to correct the situation and/or report the situation, or corrective action taken, to his or her superiors.
An Operator shall perform such duties as are prescribed by the Superintendent of Wastewater, and/or any other supervisory personnel, or their designees, including assisting anywhere in the Wastewater Department when required to do so.
Operators must be willing to work overtime as needed and be able to work various shifts.



Qualifications:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
The desired candidate will have experience in the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment plants and collection systems. Additional related education may be substituted for work experience.

Must have the ability to pull a minimum of 100 pounds dead weight from the bottom of a twenty-foot manhole and remove a standard size manhole cover (minimum weight 150 pounds) unaided. Ability to do strenuous manual work under varying weather conditions. Must have the ability to enter manholes. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, peers, and supervisors. Ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and in making decisions. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Must have the ability to communicate effectively and appropriately with the public.

The ability to work in enclosed or confined spaces. Must not have claustrophobic tendencies.

QUALIFICATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:
An Operator must have a current Class I, II or III Operator Wastewater Works Ohio E.P.A. license.
An Operator may be required to work in or inspect areas where he or she has to enter using ladders or steep stairways. He or she may have to enter confined spaces in the performance of his or her duties.
An Operator is on call 24 hours per day and must supply his, or her, own transportation to and from the job site. He or she must have a valid driver's license issued by the State of Ohio.
An Operator must be able to speak, write and understand the English language with a high degree of clarity and use a standard phone system in a professional manner.
