Job Summary:
Performs difficult skilled technical work supervising the operation and maintenance of the City’s wastewater collection system and treatment plant, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work performed under the general direction of the Utility Administrator. Divisional supervision is exercised over all personnel within the division.

Essential Functions:
- Plan, strategize, and implement wastewater system operations and budget. Develops and enforces wastewater system operation, maintenance, and laboratory policies. Plans, directs, and coordinates construction, operations, maintenance, repair, laboratory, industrial pretreatment, and other activities pertaining to wastewater collection and treatment. Supervises studies designed to determine the most efficient methods for collection system and plant operation and maintenance under varying conditions.
- Prepares and supervises the preparation of various correspondence, records, and reports related to the activities of the Wastewater Division. Confers with representatives from other jurisdictions and organizations to discuss/explain wastewater treatment plant policies and operations. Consults with State regulatory agency officials regarding water pollution and other conditions relating to wastewater collection and treatment, and sludge disposal.
- Functions as responsible person in charge for the entire wastewater system in compliance with all Federal, State, and local regulatory requirements. Plan, schedule, and direct the work of employees engaged in Wastewater Division activities. Makes field inspections of construction, operation, and maintenance activities of the Wastewater Division.
- Manages citizen inquiries and comments pertaining to wastewater service and Wastewater Division activities.
- Participates in the planning, design, and construction of wastewater capital improvement projects. Coordinates with other Public Works divisional leaders to ensure wastewater operations are aligned with department goals. Participates in city-wide operational coordination.


Qualifications:
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
This work is sedentary and requires little to no exertion of force; work regularly requires sitting, bending, reaching, hand dexterity (grasping, holding, keyboarding, repetitive movements), reading, writing, eye-hand coordination, seeing (near and/or far, color, depth, field of vision), hearing, using the telephone, contact with government officials and the general public, working overtime, and working inside and alone.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree with coursework in business management, engineering, water technology, chemistry, or related field or equivalent experience, knowledge and skills that will enable you to perform the requirements of the role proficiently.
- 3+ years experience in wastewater operation, including 2 years in a supervisory capacity.
- Possess State of Michigan Class A Wastewater Certification upon hire.
Special Requirements:
- Valid driver's license in the State of Michigan.
