This position will supervise the Utilities - Power & Water - Water Works area with direct supervision of the water works operators; provides technical, financial and planning skills for the operations and maintenance of the University's public water supply system; interface with State of Michigan regulators, Environmental Protection Agency, and IPF business leaders and engineers about new system designs and permitting activities; provide project management skills for other water system improvements in the TB Simon co-generation power plant. Organize and schedule work; recruit, hire, evaluate, and train staff; enforce university and departmental policies and procedures. Resolves employee complaints and grievances; communicate with management to discuss projects and staffing and resolve problems; work with administrators, unit business leaders and internal and external customers to discuss operations; work with union representatives to manage labor relations issues by discussing contract administration, inquiries, grievances and general information; manage budget's and schedules; assist in reviewing departmental budgets and develop financial projections and expenditures of funds; participate in long-range planning for departmental operations; participate and contribute to construction standard change process; respond to emergencies, inquiries and complaints from campus customers; estimate job requirements and costs; serve as a steward of university assets and resources. Must be able to demonstrate a willingness to build good relationships through developing strong interpersonal skills to achieve objectives through mutual participation.

Qualifications:
Minimum requirements: Knowledge normally acquired from specialized training such as that acquired in one year of college, technical, vocational, trade or business school with coursework in water well, water treatment system, wastewater treatment systems, or other public water systems or Business Management; five to eight years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in leadership, supervision, management and in water well, water treatment system, wastewater treatment systems, or other public water systems including design, methods, materials, codes, maintenance and operation of appropriate systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; Ability to obtain State of Michigan D-1 certification for Drinking Water Operators within two years.

Preferred/desirable qualifications: State of Michigan D-1 certification for Drinking Water Operators; State of Michigan Professional Engineer License in civil, chemical, or mechanical engineering; work experience in design, operation and regulatory work for a public water supply; ability to coach and lead employees to be successful; create an environment of teamwork and education and support a culture of high performing customer/employee interaction.
