This is skilled technical work assisting in shift operation of the Water Reclamation Facility.

This class assists the Water Reclamation Operator II in the operation and routine servicing of specialized equipment in a large, complex activated sludge Plant. The incumbent is also responsible for the operation of nine (9) lift stations and a small package plant. The incumbent will work on a rotating basis, shifts dedicated to the operation of the belt filter presses, presently first shift with weekend shifts required on a rotating basis.

The incumbents are required to become thoroughly trained on assigned equipment and processes in the interest of accurate decisions in emergencies. All work is under the general supervision of a Water Reclamation Operator II who is responsible for the plant on his or her shift. Work is characterized by employment on rotating shifts.

Essential Job Duties
-Reads log book of previous shift operations to determine the occurrence of anything requiring special attention during his shift.
-Visits lift stations as scheduled, checking operation, making adjustments, and maintaining logs and records.
-Pumps raw sludge from primary to thickeners.
-Takes samples and makes readings as directed throughout shift, both analog and digital equipment.
-Operates belt press filler, adjusting feed rates and polymer application. Monitors material handling equipment related to biosolids.
-Makes necessary adjustments to and performs routine maintenance on a wide variety of running equipment. Refers major repair to maintenance staff.
-Gives general assistance to lead shift operator in switching equipment, operating valves and gates, transferring sludge, backflushing lines, hosing tanks, etc., including assistance in the performance of laboratory tests.
-Assists maintenance as required in the performance of complex maintenance tasks throughout the plant.
-Performs related work as required.



Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

-High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.)
-Six (6) months to One (1) year of technical experience in the operation and maintenance of Water Reclamation Plant machinery and apparatus.
-Class I certificate or Operator-In-Training designation in Water Reclamation (Wastewater), as issued by appropriate State Agency. Must obtain Class I certificate or Operator-In-Training designation in Water Reclamation (Wastewater) as issued by the State of Ohio within six (6) months of appointment. Full Class I certification must be maintained.

Preferred Qualifications:
-Completion of approved coursework in Sanitation or Water Reclamation
