Performs the required tasks associated with a survey crew, including the setup and use of the total station, auto level, digital level, and GPS equipment to measure horizontal and vertical distances. Edits field data, drawings and maps using ACAD software. Provides interpretation of engineering plans for layout and stationing of engineering projects for accuracy and timely project completions.
Job Functions / Scope of Authority
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Operates survey equipment including: total station, GPS rover, auto level, digital level, and data collectors.
Performs preliminary topographical surveys to provide accurate information for project planning and design.
Performs mathematical calculations related to surveying and basic civil engineering.
Provides vertical control for benchmarks, flood plains, surveys, and construction projects.
Interprets plans and drawings provided by project engineers for layout of projects.
Assists in providing construction staking and layout.
Assists with performance of field traverses and provision for boundary locations using conventional methods and/or GPS.
Performs research for property records, section corner monuments, plats and benchmark records.
Maintains the field book and computerized survey records along with other required record keeping.
Downloads and edits survey data and provides drawings to geo-data services and project engineers.
Utilizes ACAD software to evaluate and prepare data for stake out on construction projects.
Assists and trains coworker in all aspects of the job.
Supervises crew in the absence of the survey party chief.
Maintains survey equipment and survey vehicles.
Demonstrates a respectful attitude towards customers and coworkers that promotes teamwork, open communication, and effective customer service.
Acts with the customer in mind, responds to requests promptly and provides effective services or solutions for customers.
Exercises appropriate level of initiative and judgment to make decisions within the scope of assigned authority.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Solid knowledge of surveying procedures and methods.
Ability to effectively communicate information, both verbally and in writing, to support organizational objectives and interact with all levels of personnel within the city in a positive and cooperative manner.
Ability to maintain a professional working atmosphere in a close work environment.
Other duties as required.

SCOPE OF AUTHORITY:
Receives direct supervision from the survey party chief. Performs work and daily priorities established by the survey party chief. Defined procedures cover most duties. Expected to evaluate and respond to new situations that require immediate attention.
Makes approved purchases up to $2000.00.
Working Environment / Qualifications
WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
The work environment/physical activities described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job.
Work is primarily performed in an outdoor environment with low to high noise levels. Physical effort and activities include: moderate physical work. Able to walk or stand for long periods of time. Occasional lifting, pushing or pulling of objects up to 100 pounds and up to 30 pounds frequently. Exposure to adverse weather conditions, exposure to atmospheric conditions that can affect the skin and/or respiratory system, high vehicle traffic, automobile fumes and dust, noise and dangers of working around construction sites.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, LICENSE, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE):
High school diploma or GED equivalent plus three (3) years of field experience with advanced coursework in algebra, geometry and trigonometry. A valid Colorado driver's license is required.
