The City of Elyria is seeking a full-time Wastewater Operator to work in our Wastewater Pollution Control Plant. The successful candidate will possess a high school diploma or relevant vocational school course; Class I Wastewater certificate as issued by the Ohio EPA, or a minimum of an Operator in Training (OIT) certificate; and maintain a valid Ohio Driver’s License. This is a classified position and is non-exempt in accordance with the FLSA, and has an hourly rate of $20.89. Qualifications:
1. Must demonstrate regular and predictable attendance.
2. Must be able to perform heavy manual labor, which includes lifting, reaching, stretching, and bending.
3. Must have and continually maintain a working telephone (proof will be required and records must be kept up to date with the supervisor).
4. Must have a high school diploma or possess a G.E.D.
5. Must be trustworthy and able to communicate satisfactorily with other employees and the general public keeping in mind the principles of the City of Elyria customer service mission.
6. Must have ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
7. Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age and be in possession of and continually maintain a valid Ohio Driver’s license.
8. Ability to perform all required duties.
9. Must have mechanical ability.
10. A Class I Wastewater Operator certificate as issued by the Ohio EPA is preferred, or a minimum of an Operator in Training (OIT) Certificate is required.
Comments:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Ability to learn, comprehend and apply the principles and operating practices of state-of-the-art wastewater treatment facilities. Ability to learn, comprehend and follow safety procedures associated with wastewater treatment.
EQUIPMENT OPERATED:
The following are examples only and are not intended to be all inclusive: Plant vehicles, tractors, lawn mowers, hand tools, snow removal equipment, pH meters, grit and screening removal equipment, gas recirculation and mixing equipment, pumps, valves, amperometric titrators, etc.
INHERENTLY HAZARDOUS OR PHYSICAL DEMANDING WORK CONDITIONS:
Has exposure to hot, cold, wet humid or windy conditions while working on various jobs. Has exposure to various chemicals used in the wastewater industry. Has potential exposure to water borne diseases, noxious gas or vapors, odors and varying degrees of noise. Position involves physically demanding manual labor.
SCHEDULE:
Operators may be working rotation shifts of days, afternoons and nights. Shift #1: 7:00 am – 3:00 pm, Shift #2: 3:00 pm – 11:00 pm, Shift #3: 11:00 pm – 7:00 am. When not serving as an operator, hours of operation are 7:00 am – 3:30 pm. Schedule is subject to change at the discretion of the City of Elyria.
