This is a full-time position with Allendale Charter Township that requires some flexibility in working hours as overtime is required for mandatory rotating weekend shift. This position involves working with a team of 5-8 other public utilities employees at the plant in Allendale, MI, as well as working offsite as required. Licensing is available through the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality and is encouraged. The wage range for this position is $19.45 - $27.22 per hour.

Essential Job Functions

1. Daily operation of public utilities, including but not limited to, maintenance of motors, pumps, vehicles, and other equipment at the wastewater treatment facility

2. Operate meter stations, lift stations, water storage tanks, mains, and services

3. Maintain lift stations and pump stations

4. Inspect and assist with the repair of mains and services

5. General maintenance of facility and grounds

6. Perform lab analysis on a rotating week-end schedule and be on call for emergencies

7. Install and repair water meters, exercise hydrants and valves, as well as read water meters

8. Work variable hours for water meter retrofitting

9. Communicate with Public Utilities team regarding status of equipment and samples




Ability Requirements

1. Ability to use computers with a working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite

2. Ability to operate a motor vehicle with a valid driver’s license

3. Ability to operate equipment involved in the maintenance of the facility

4. Ability to lift and carry 50lbs

5. Ability to work independently

6. Ability to communicate effectively on the telephone and in public

7. Ability and working knowledge of how to use hand tools

8. Ability to comprehend blueprints

9. Ability to follow safety procedures to ensure safe working environment



Qualifications:
Qualifications, Skills, and Requirements

1. Minimum of two years college credit

2. College level mathematics course required

3. College level biology and chemistry course with lab component desired

4. Previous public utilities experience desired

5. Desire to continue learning through Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, as licensing is strongly encouraged

6. Basic reading and writing skills, with knowledge of spelling, punctuation, and grammar

7. Collaboration and communication with other employees

8. Logic, intuition, analysis, research, organization and judgment skills
