SUMMARY OF JOB FOR WATER PLANT OPERATOR:
(Minimum Starting Hourly Wage $19.248)

Operates and controls water filtration plant, water distribution system and river pump station through computer and PLC networks;
Operates and maintains automatic pumps, valves and other equipment in a municipal water filtration plant; regulates and processes equipment as necessary;
Oils and adjusts pumps and machinery; installs and repairs pumps, meters, motors, compressors and generation equipment; repacks valves; aligns motors to pumps;
Takes and interprets gauge and recording readings; backwashes rapid sand filters;
Performs and records turbidity, alkalinity, hardness, residual chlorine, fluoride and orthophosphate;
Fills chemical day tanks and hoppers from chemical storage tanks and containers; changes chemical metering pumps and dry chemical feeders when necessary;
Starts and stops filter machinery and pumps, regulates valves, and observes flow dials, regulates the flow of water and chemicals to be added to the water;
Maintains plant and adjacent grounds in clean orderly condition;
Maintains necessary work records and prepares reports as required.


Qualifications:

MINIMUM POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Those appointed must possess an Ohio Class I Operator’s certificate and a High School Diploma or G.E.D. Upon appointment the employee will be required to pursue Ohio EPA Water Supply Certification as directed. Those appointed must obtain an Ohio EPA Operational Laboratory Certificate within two (2) years of appointment.

All certifications and licensing obtained must be kept as a condition of employment.

Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license; may be required to obtain a Class B or higher Commercial Driver’s License

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Shall be a high school graduate or hold a G.E.D. equivalent
certificate; AND
• Shall be a citizen and resident of the United States; AND
• Must be in sound physical shape to ascend, descend and work
from steps, ladders and scaffolding and lift, carry and handle
weights of 100 pounds and over;

The City of Steubenville Civil Service Commission is currently accepting applications for water plant operator for the Water Department. Applications and resumes for this open position will be accepted until the position is filled.
