Details:
The University Child Development School (UCDS) is a research-based, independent elementary school whose faculty has been nationally recognized for its excellence and innovation in educating children. In serving 325 kids, ages three to fifth grade, the school celebrates the individuality of each student through programs that address diverse learning styles, intelligence, and points of view.

UCDS was founded in the early twentieth century as a lab school at the University of Washington and was established as an independent, private nonprofit and professional practice school over 30 years ago. The educational programs are designed by the faculty, not only to address academic and specialist subjects, but also to provide an individualized stretch for each student. The school holds inquiry, responsibility, collaboration, and diversity as central organizing principles. Small group instruction by engaged and experienced teachers is key to the achievement of the organization’s broad and holistic development goals for its students. For more on the school, please visit www.ucds.org

Through leadership of the Business Office, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for directing the fiscal functions of the University Child Development School (UCDS) in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles issued by the Financial Accounting Standards Board, and in accordance with financial management techniques and practices appropriate within the industry. As a key member of the school's leadership team and broader community, the CFO provides technical financial advice and knowledge to others within the financial discipline.

In addition, he or she develops financial strategies by forecasting capital, facilities, and staff requirements, identifying monetary resources, and developing action plans, then monitors financial performance by measuring and analyzing results, initiating corrective actions, and minimizing the impact of variances. The CFO works closely with three committees of the Board of Trustees (Finance, Investments, and Capital Assets) and is a regular attendee and presenter at Board meetings.

As a manager and supervisor, the CFO evaluates the Business Offices’ structure and plan for continual improvement while providing individuals with professional and personal growth opportunities. The CFO and staff within the Business Office are also responsible for human resources, financial aid, compliance, and facilities and maintenance, and the CFO serves as the primary liaison between the school and outside legal counsel on issues such as trademarks, employment, and real estate. The CFO will also be called upon frequently to contribute to the on-going operation of the school outside of his or her own area of responsibility, but within the unique cultural expectations of UCDS.
