The City of Solon has an opening for a Wastewater Operator in the Department of Water Reclamation. Applicants maintaining a Class I Wastewater Operators License are preferred. Operators-in-Training will be acceptable whereas the applicant can obtain the proper certification within two (2) years from the date of hire. This position is Civil Service and a member of the Teamsters Local 436 bargaining unit.

Position responsibilities include performing a variety of tasks in controlling the daily operations of the wastewater treatment facility. The job responsibilities include operating and controlling wastewater treatment equipment to clean, purify and remove harmful domestic and industrial pollution from wastewater in sewage treatment facilities. Also operate large trucks, forklifts, pumps, conveyors, blowers, belt filter presses and other equipment utilized in the treatment of wastewater.


Qualifications:
Applicants are required to possess a high school degree or a GED equivalency certificate. In addition, other requirements include: at least one (1) year of related work experience; possess or have the ability to obtain within six months of employment a Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL); and the successful completion of confined space entry safety training. Applicants may also be required to participate in vocational or apprenticeship training in related skilled trades. The successful applicant will be slotted on Solon’s wage scale based on their Wastewater License and qualifications in accordance with the current collective bargaining agreement.
