Grand Valley Metro Council seeks a candidate to fill the position of Stormwater Program Coordinator. Requirements include: Bachelor’s Degree in civil engineering, environmental science, or related field with focus on water resources; five years’ experience in stormwater management (SWMP and MS4 experience highly preferred); as well as a thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of low impact development; State and Federal laws and other regulations governing stormwater and water resources; and municipal ordinance enforcement. Additionally, candidates must have skill in grant management; compiling and evaluating complex environmental issues; effectively communicating ideas and making presentations in a public forum; and interpreting and applying stormwater management standards, guidelines and ordinances.

This position will manage all aspects of the stormwater program including: public outreach, education, grant writing and management, reporting, training, as well as policy and program development.

This is a full-time position with compensation range of ($50,000 – $70,000) depending on qualifications. Qualifications:
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Minimum Qualifications:

Requirements include the following:

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field with focus on water resources.
• Five years’ experience in stormwater management
• A State of Michigan Vehicle Operator’s License.
• Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of low impact development
• Thorough knowledge of State and Federal laws and other regulations governing stormwater and water resources
• Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of municipal ordinance enforcement
• Be an effective hands-on project manager who demonstrates accountability for the success of the project, is open to new challenges, and is adaptable to changes in project scope and direction
• Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office software, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, etc.
• Familiarity with social networking tools to keep up with changing methods of communication.
• Demonstrated ability to cultivate effective working relationships within the organization and with external partners and stakeholders.
• Basic knowledge of GIS software and use of ArcMap.
• Ability to work independently to accomplish tasks and within in a team to set larger goals and objectives of program.
• Skill in effectively communicating ideas and making presentations in a public forum.
• Skill in interpreting and applying stormwater management standards, guidelines and ordinances.
• Skill in compiling and evaluating complex environmental issues, such as causes and sources of E. coli, NPDES industrial and construction site permits and rules, and total maximum daily loads (TMDLs).
• Ability to establish effective working relationships and use good judgement, initiative and resourcefulness when dealing with the media, the public, other employees, and governmental units.
• Ability to critically assess situations, solve problems, work effectively under stress, within deadlines, and in public situations.
• Ability to attend meetings as scheduled at times, on occasion, other than regular business hours.
• Or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
