The City of Lakewood is currently accepting applications for the full-time position of Chief Mechanic in the Department of Public Works, at the Wastewater Treatment Plant. The hours for this position are Monday – Friday from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm. The starting pay is $25.70/hour.

Qualifications:
ELECTRICAL: Must be proficient with 3 phase, 480V in an industrial setting; install, test, maintain, troubleshoot & repair electrical wiring, fixtures, control devices & equipment; must be able to install , align & maintain electric motors up to 200 hp; diagnose, locate cause & repair electrical malfunctions to systems and components; perform preventive maintenance on electrical systems; ability to troubleshoot and repair PLCs; ability to install and program VFDs; read and interpret drawings, blueprints, electrical code specifications & schematics; proficient in the use of ohmmeters & multimeters; must be familiar with local, state & federal electrical codes; must be able to diagnose older electrical systems & bring them up to current electrical code standards; must be able to maintain accurate maintenance records in written and electronic format.

MECHANICAL: Must have the ability to use all types of manual and power operated hand tools; must have the ability to diagnose and repair all types of mechanical defects; must be able to repair and replace all types of bearings, couplers, mechanical seals and sealant packing; must have the ability to install new and replacement process equipment; must have the ability to perform general carpentry and concrete fabrication and repair; must be able to set up and operate lathes and milling machines; must be proficient in the installation and repairing of plumbing using copper, galvanized, black, PVC and ductile piping up to 24” in diameter; must have the ability to use gas, arc and mig welders and plasma cutting equipment; must have a general knowledge of HVAC equipment.

Must be able to safely operate a forklift & high lift; must be able to lift 50 - 75 pounds above the head, be able to work from ladders & work platforms with the ability to work for long periods of time overhead as well as while bending or stooping; must have adequate eyesight & be able to pass the red/green color eye test; be able to communicate from a distance, have good agility, sense of balance/coordination & hand/eye coordination; ability to work in a team atmosphere with other members of the facility’s maintenance unit.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• High school graduate or GED equivalent.
• 5 years of documentable full–time field experience working in an industrial atmosphere.
• Must obtain and maintain a minimum of at least a Class I Wastewater Operators Certification within 18 months of appointment. Present and former WWTP employees will have their remaining number of original months to obtain certification.
• Must have a valid Ohio Driver’s License with less than eight (8) points.
• Must satisfactorily complete skills tests at the discretion of the City, as required.
• Must satisfactorily complete a physical examination with drug screen and police background investigation.

Employee may be required to work overtime pursuant to the provisions of Article 5 and Article 15 of the current negotiated agreement. Applicants may be reassigned as required.
