ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) is a set of standards that investors can use to evaluate investments and determine whether a company’s operations are “responsible.” Investors are increasingly applying these non-financial factors as part of their analysis process to identify material risks and growth opportunities. Join NWAFP for a panel discussion on how Companies are integrating ESG metrics to create positive impact and strength the communities in which they live and work in.
 
Panelists:
Dr. Jan Whittington is an Associate Professor of the Department of Urban Design and Planning, the founding Director of the Urban Infrastructure Lab (https://uil.be.uw.edu/), Associate Faculty at the Tech Policy Lab, at the University of Washington, Seattle, and a former strategic planner for the international infrastructure developer, Bechtel Corporation (https://urbdp.be.uw.edu/people/jan-whittington/). She is a global expert in infrastructure economics, climate-smart capital planning, and city climate finance. For the World Bank’s City Creditworthiness Initiative, she has worked with municipalities in 23 countries at the intersection of climate change and capital planning. Her publications address climate change through capital investment planning, the evaluation of smart city infrastructure systems, and the efficiency of public-private contractual arrangements for infrastructure. Her PhD (2008) is in City and Regional Planning from the University of California, Berkeley.
 
Kevin Wilhelm is the CEO of Sustainable Business Consulting and is one of the world’s pre-eminent business consultants in the field of sustainability and climate change. He was recognized by Climate Change Business Journal in 2021 with the Individual Award for Industry Leadership and his firm has worked with over 230 clients on realizing business & financial value from sustainability.
Some of his clients include New York Life, Delta Airlines, Amazon, Nordstrom, REI, Expedia, Alaska Airlines, Eddie Bauer, Whole Foods and the two-time MLS Cup Champion Seattle Sounders!
He teaches on ESG reporting at Harvard and has taught Sustainable Finance at multiple Institutions of higher ed. He has two TEDx Talks and is the author of three acclaimed books in this field.

Maggie Kellogg is a member of the Treasury team at Starbucks supporting Capital Markets initiatives, including sustainable financing issues and ESG/impact investments. She recently led efforts from the Treasury side to launch the Starbucks Community Resilience Fund, a $100M commitment to advance racial equity and environmental resilience. Earlier in her career, Maggie worked in Southeast Asia on a range of community-based natural resource management and conservation programs. She holds M.A. and M.S. degrees from the Fletcher and Friedman Schools at Tufts University, where she studied sustainable international development with a focus on global food businesses.

Stephen Carlson, CTP is the Treasury Manager at REI where he is responsible for treasury operations and investment activities, maintaining relationships with external service providers, and oversees the corporate travel & expense programs. Before joining REI in 2019, he was a consultant at PwC in the Financial and Treasury Management practice, where he advised clients across industries, including technology, media, and entertainment. He holds an MBA from Georgetown University and BBA from George Washington University.

Moderators:
Kristi Eberhardt
is a Managing Director & Head of Sustainable Finance at PNC. She has over 20 years in the debt capital markets space and currently heads the Sustainable Finance practice for PNC, which is defined at PNC by the process of weaving an issuer's ESG goals, regardless of where they are on their ESG journey, into their capitalization.  Kristi was part of the team that created our Sustainable Finance framework and issued both green and social bond and has helped put into place partnerships with D&I firms for expanded capabilities.

Brian Fairhurst is a Managing Director, Institutional Sales at RBC GAM-US. In this role, he is responsible for developing relationships and representing our investment strategies to various financial intermediaries including corporations, foundations, endowments, family offices and registered investment advisors in the western United States. Brian joined the firm in 2015 from a large U.S. asset management company, where he was a senior vice president and regional director. He started his career in the financial services industry in 2000 after 7 years as an officer in the U.S. Air Force and has worked for several major investment management and investment advisory firms. He holds FINRA Series 7, 63, 65 and 24 securities licenses and is also registered as an Associated Person and Branch Manager with the National Futures Association. Brian holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from the University of Virginia. He is also a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries.
