Colorado Association of Geotechnical Engineers - Event Information
CAGE February Meeting
Program to be presented by Scott Anderson
Scott is a Principal Geotechnical Engineer with BGC Engineering in Golden, CO. Scott’s affiliations and activities include serving as last year’s AEG/GSA Jahns Distinguished Lecturer, a member of the ASCE Geo-Institute’s Embankment, Dams and Slopes, and Engineering Geology and Site Characterization committees, an NSF Steering Committee member for the Geotechnical Extreme Event Reconnaissance Association, and Co-Chair of the Transportation Research Board’s Subcommittee on Geotechnical Asset Management. He was formerly the manager of the FHWA Resource Center Geotechnical Services Team and has spent most of his professional career in the greater Denver area.
Scott will present on the background of the September/October 2017 GeoStrata article titled: Risky Business – Identifying an acceptable rockfall standard. A perhaps unintended outcome of using rockfall hazard rating systems to prioritize highway slopes for mitigation is that sites of a certain rating are accepted year after year, and this helps to define a de facto standard. The standard is not precise and it does not pertain to all situations, but it does provide value for the FHWA, state highway agencies, and the consultants delivering much of the work. This is demonstrated through its early use in response to the Northern Colorado Flooding of September 2013 and other projects.
One sponsorship is available for each CAGE monthly meeting.
