The KCM Staff

For 2016-17, KCM has once again partnered with the Kentucky Department of Education to offer Mathematics Content Coaching professional learning experiences (PLE).

Mathematics Content Coaching is designed to provide mathematics instructional coaches and administrators with job-embedded, learning opportunities that are aimed at initiating profound, sustainable, school-wide improvements in teaching and learning. The content coaching model works to build a school   culture that has a shared understanding of how to engage students in learning mathematics through well-designed learning tasks and activities. All participants will observe a master coach as she co-plans with a teacher, co-teaches a mathematics lesson in a classroom, and then debriefs the lesson. The intended outcome of the KCM Mathematics Content Coaching PLE is to increase student achievement in mathematics and implement successful mathematics intervention by maximizing the impact of a mathematics coach.

Participants in the cohorts for Mathematics Coaches will meet for four days to thoroughly explore the Content Coaching Cycle and examine mathematics teaching practices. Participants will observe Master Coach Anne Burgunder as she co-plans with a teacher, co-teaches and then debriefs lessons. The focus will be on refining  teaching decisions that directly influence student understanding of mathematics.

While the target audience for this PLE is instructional coaches, classroom  teachers who are working to become teacher-leaders may also greatly benefit from attending.

In order for a coach or teacher to be able to effectively engage in content coaching, it is highly recommended that a principal from the school also attend one of the two one day administrator's sessions being offered on either Dec. 7, 2016 (Fayette County) or Mar. 22, 2017 (Anderson County).

Dates:
Nov. 17 & 18, 2016 (Washington County)
and
Mar. 23 & 24, 2017 (Anderson County)

Time: 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Cost: $0.00

Registration will no longer be available for this event after 11:59 p.m. on October 13, 2016.
