Wednesday:
Re-envisioning Libraries and Presence Based Leadership--Presented by Maureen Sullivan and Catherine Monnin
You’ve heard plenty about library – community partnerships. Come, relax, sit back and hear how these collaborations can be part of your Presence Based Leadership. Public libraries are poised to play a leading role in helping individuals and communities adapt to this changing world.  Enabling all libraries to fulfill their new roles will require library leaders, policy makers
and community stakeholders to re-envision the public library and take advantage of the
opportunities it offers. Many libraries already are linking individuals to information and learning opportunities, driving development and innovation, and serving as community connectors.
Former ALA President Maureen Sullivan will co-facilitate this discussion along with Cathy Monnin, an experienced and popular trainer.  You’ll leave with a plan to make “courageous moves” happen at your library!

Thursday Morning:
Politics of Leadership Internally and Externally--Presented by Betsy Lantz, NEO's Director of Success
“Just because you do not take an interest in politics doesn’t mean politics won’t take an interest in you.” – Pericles (495-429 BCE)
In the world of work the word “politics” is generally conceived of as a negative word.  The reality is that politics exist in all organizations and at all levels.  The ability to navigate internal and external politics is a determining factor in your ability to be an effective leader.  Avoiding the politics of the workplace limits you and your organization.  Acknowledging the politics and working with them effectively expands your ability to lead and increases the potential of your organization.
We will talk about the following skills needed to effectively navigate internal and external politics.
  • Learning to read the political landscape
  • Networking
  • Building coalitions
  • Negotiating
