The NWAFP is pleased to offer a panel discussion on Internet Bill Presentment and Payment Acceptance where we will hear the panelists’ perspectives about how a firm would accept payments over the Internet through their website and what considerations are critical to doing so.  Our panelists include Mary Desmond from the Seattle Times, Lisa Lam of the Port of Seattle and Rick Fiorito of Transactis.

Online payment portals were initially offered by online retailers, utilities, insurance companies and telecom vendors, but any industry that offers a product or service that can convey billing information in an electronic form are now participating.  The benefits for joining the online marketplace include creating process improvements, generating cost efficiency, and reducing the reliance on paper.

Rick Fiorito brings more than 30 years of experience in information technology, receivables management and payments. In senior leadership positions at AT&T, Verizon/MCI, SkyTel, NCO, BNY Mellon and ACI/ORCC, Rick developed the reputation as an innovative leader and developed repeatable business practices to accelerate profitable revenue growth. As president of Accelerated Payment Systems/NCO, an early EBPP market entrant, he introduced many of the epayment industry best practices that are common today. He joined Transactis in April 2014 as the Chief Revenue Officer, responsible for leading the sales, marketing and product management team to exceed revenue goals and strengthen Transactis’ EBPP and EIPP market leadership.

Lisa Lam, CPA, joined the Port of Seattle in 2005 and holds the position of Assistant Director, Financial Reporting & Controls & Revenue Services. Lisa’s main duties in the Port include overseeing centralized revenue operations including billing administration, accounts receivable administration, collection enforcement, and tax administration. She also manages the financial reporting & controls team in performing internal controls testing following the Sarbanes-Oxley model.

Mary Desmond, CTP, Treasury Analyst, has spent 21 years as Cash Manager at the Seattle Times Company. Her duties included cash forecasting, budget, investment debt management, risk management, bank relationship management and lockbox management.  Mary is joining Zulily in mid-October and will be building out the treasury function of this new and growing company.
