The NWAFP is pleased to have Nancy Young, CPA, CISA, CFE, MBA give a presentation on the Fraud Scheme Prevention and Detection. Ms. Young is a Fraud Investigations and Forensic Accounting Services at Moss Adams. In this presentation we will discuss why fraud happens – the fraud environment, fraud schemes from actual cases, how to prevent and detect these schemes, and characteristics of a fraudster.

Nancy has been with Moss Adams since June 2006 and is part of the Business Assurance Services Group leading the Fraud Investigations and Forensic Accounting Services. Previously, Nancy worked for the Oregon Secretary of State Audits Division as an Audit Manager. During her ten years with the division she was responsible for managing the Division’s Fraud, Waste & Abuse hotline and fraud investigations team. Nancy has conducted investigative work in various industry groups including state, local and tribal governments, not-for-profits; auto dealerships; financial institutions; health care; manufacturing and distribution; colleges and universities; and construction. In addition, Nancy has worked as an examiner for the US Trustees office in a bankruptcy fraud case.

Nancy is also an adjunct professor at Portland State University teaching Forensic and Investigative Accounting. In 2013, Nancy was awarded an Achievement Medal from the City of Portland Police Bureau for the Justice for Fraud Victim’s Program (fighting white-collar crime from the classroom). She has co-authored a guide on fraud in the dealership industry that was released in 2010 and has written numerous articles for various publications. She speaks at numerous professional conferences on the subject of fraud including the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Oregon Society of CPAs, Washington Society of CPAs, California Society of CPAs, the Oregon Bankers Association, the Oregon Municipal Finance Officers Association, the National Bar Finance Officers Association, and the National Auto Dealers Association.

Nancy is a Certified Fraud Examiner, Certified Public Accountant, and Certified Information Systems Auditor. She earned a MBA from Portland State University in 2006 and a B.S. Degree in Business Management and Communications from Corban College in 1996. Nancy is a member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and Information Systems Audit and Control Association.


The meeting and lunch are included in the annual membership. All Corporate Practitioners Members and Financial Services Provider Members with Guest Privileges are eligible to bring a new one-time guest at no cost. Both members and guests must register. If the paid member cannot attend a meeting, a substitute may attend. Non-members pay the guest price of $45. Non-working students pay the student guest price of $15.
